Indonesia Launches Construction of 92 MW Floating Solar Project in West Java

Indonesia’s state-owned utility PLN has begun work on a 92-megawatt floating solar power plant on the Saguling Reservoir in West Java, located about 180 km from Jakarta. Scheduled to be operational by November 2026, the facility is expected to produce more than 130 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity per year, helping cut carbon emissions by an estimated 104,000 tons annually.

The project is part of Indonesia’s ambitious energy transition plan, which targets 42.6 gigawatts of new renewable capacity by 2034, with solar power contributing 17.1 gigawatts. While investment details have not yet been revealed, the development builds on earlier solar initiatives, including collaborations between PLN’s Nusantara Power subsidiary and UAE-based Masdar in West Java.
