Ghana is set to roll out 48,000 electric motorcycles by 2030 under a landmark agreement between the Swedish Energy Agency and Solar Taxi Ltd, a leading local electric vehicle company. Facilitated by South Pole, a global climate consultancy, the initiative aims to cut carbon emissions in the transport sector by at least 200,000 tons. The project, implemented under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, allows international collaboration where one country funds emission-reduction projects abroad while counting the reductions toward its own climate targets.
In addition to reducing emissions, the project is expected to generate local employment and expand access to electric vehicles in Ghana. Solar Taxi has also introduced the Female Engineers Academy to empower women in the EV industry. This partnership highlights Ghana’s commitment to sustainable transport and its broader climate and development objectives. More
