India’s Renewable Energy Leaders Urge Localisation for Sustainable Growth

India’s top renewable energy experts are calling for a stronger focus on localisation to ensure the country’s renewable energy sector continues to thrive. As the nation accelerates its efforts to achieve ambitious clean energy targets, leaders in the industry emphasize that boosting local manufacturing capabilities for solar panels, wind turbines, and battery storage systems is crucial for long-term growth. With increasing global demand for green technologies, India must reduce its reliance on imports to strengthen its supply chain and lower production costs. Localising key components will also create jobs, foster innovation, and help India become a leader in the global clean energy market.

The push for localisation comes at a time when India is striving to meet its goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030. While the country has made significant strides in expanding renewable energy capacity, concerns about supply chain disruptions, reliance on foreign imports, and fluctuating costs for critical materials like polysilicon and lithium have raised alarms. Industry leaders believe that by enhancing local production, India can ensure greater energy security, improve the efficiency of its renewable projects, and attract more investment into the sector. They are urging policymakers to create supportive frameworks, incentivize research and development, and ensure favorable conditions for domestic manufacturers to capitalize on this rapidly growing market.
