Portugal benefits greatly from its location along the Atlantic coast, which provides consistent and strong winds ideal for generating electricity through wind turbines. The country aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, making the expansion of wind power capacity crucial in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from electricity generation. Recently, Iberdrola, a global leader in renewable energy, has received full environmental certification from the Portuguese government to proceed with constructing a 274-megawatt (MW) wind farm in the Vila Real and Braga districts. This project, the largest of its kind in Portugal, represents a significant milestone in the country’s transition towards renewable energy and away from fossil fuels.
