Vietnam has initiated the evacuation of more than 586,000 residents across five coastal provinces, including Quang Tri and Quang Nam, in anticipation of Typhoon Kajiki’s landfall. The storm is expected to bring heavy rains and winds up to 180 km/h (112 mph) to central Vietnam by Monday afternoon. Authorities have suspended domestic flights, halted maritime activities, and mobilized the military to assist with evacuations and disaster response. In Hue, farmers are urgently harvesting rice crops to prevent losses, while emergency shelters are being set up in schools and public buildings. The government has also issued warnings about potential flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions.
Meanwhile, in southern China, the city of Sanya on Hainan Island has raised its emergency response to the highest level and issued a red typhoon alert. The storm passed about 200 km southeast of Sanya on Sunday morning, bringing sustained winds of 38 m/s (137 km/h or 85 mph). Authorities have closed all tourist attractions, suspended public transportation, and ordered businesses to shut down. Over 20,000 people have been evacuated from coastal areas, and more than 21,000 fishing boats have returned to port. Heavy rainfall of up to 35 cm (14 inches) is expected, raising concerns about flooding and storm surges. More
