India’s Green Revolution: Millions Unite to Reforest the Nation and Heal the Planet

In a remarkable display of environmental unity, millions of Indians have joined hands in mass tree-planting campaigns across the country, marking a new chapter in India’s green revolution. In Uttar Pradesh alone, more than 100 million saplings were planted in a single day as part of the state’s annual drive to expand forest cover and combat air pollution. Similar movements in Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra have brought together volunteers, schoolchildren, and government workers, transforming degraded lands into thriving green zones.

India’s nationwide efforts align with its commitment to restore 26 million hectares of degraded land by 2030 under the Bonn Challenge. According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, these initiatives could absorb up to 2.5–3 billion tonnes of CO₂ by the end of the decade, strengthening the country’s climate resilience. Beyond numbers, the movement has sparked a growing sense of eco-consciousness among citizens, turning tree planting into a people’s movement — one that reflects India’s ancient ethos of living in harmony with nature.
