Apple Faces Lawsuit in the U.S. Over “Carbon Neutral” Claim for Watches

Apple is facing a lawsuit in the United States over its claim of “carbon neutral” production for the Apple Watch, with consumers accusing the company of misleading marketing. The plaintiffs argue that Apple’s use of carbon offset programs, such as purchasing carbon credits, doesn’t address the actual emissions generated during manufacturing and transportation. They claim that Apple fails to disclose the full environmental impact of its supply chain, including emissions from raw material extraction.

While Apple has committed to becoming carbon neutral across its entire supply chain by 2030, critics argue that offsetting emissions through credits does not solve the underlying pollution issues in production. This case shines a light on growing concerns of “greenwashing” in the tech industry, as companies promote sustainability without transparency. Legal experts suggest the lawsuit could lead to more rigorous standards for corporate environmental claims, with broader implications for how carbon neutrality is defined and communicated to consumers.
